Birth of an Endowment Fund
An endowment - in memory of Margaret J. Nichols - launched an effort to
establish and support a church endowment fund. Additional gifts will be
added to the original gift. Income from the fund will be used to supplement annual pledges and
other sources of income for special purposes recommened by the finance
committee and/or the long-range planning committee and approved by the
Executive Board and the congregation.
Why Give?
You are invited to consider adding to this fund with your own contribution. Endowments of any amount are welcome. Members of the committee and the treasurer are able to discuss your
interests. Reasons for contirbuting are as varied as the church's
individual members. Some motivations you may want to consider are:
- Maintaining a healthy, liberal church in the northern metropolitan Detroit area.
- Contributing to long-range growth and development of the church
- Memorializing a loved one
Of course, your contribution offers substantial tax advantages and the
opportunity to use your financial resources to serve the purposes you
consider most important.
Ways to give
Methods of contributing to the endowment fund range from
straightforward to slightly more complicated. Straightforward
contributions include willed gifts; restricted or unrestricted cash
gifts; gifts or artifadcts, jewelry and other valuables; naming the
church as a insurance policy beneficiary. Certain gifts could require legal and/or financial advice, such as gifts of real estate or stocks, for example.
Endowment policy
Several board-approved policies will assure that endowments serve the
purposes of both the church and the prospective donors. Prospective
donors are encouraged to discuss their purposes for gift giving with
members of the finance committee or the church treasurer. Donations
will remain confidential, if desired. Only gifts which are consistent with congregational purposes will be accepted.
