Reflections on the Confederate Flag

When my wife and I traveled South for vacation, I was struck by the Confederate flag still prominently being displayed. There was a disconnect for me, a cognitive dissonance, in trying to make sense of this symbol. So I will attempt to do just that in this sermon, reflecting on the meaning of not just that flag, but of problems of racism and de facto segregation within our community.

ECUU Fundraisers

Emerson has a pair of ongoing fundraisers, one with Meijer's and one of our own.

To join the Meijer program, you need a Meijer card - you can get one by visiting Get a Meijer Card. It's very simple to sign up - I just did it in two minutes - and it will take some of the money you spend at Meijer's and donate it to our church.

The other fundraiser involves used printer cartridges and cell phones. If you have any of these items, bring them to the church. You will help the environment - they will be properly recycled - and help the church. It's a win-win situation!

The Power Within You

This Sunday will be the kick-off of our church's annual pledge campaign, which will be chaired by Jim and Mary Lou Bilen.

They will share their beliefs about how each of us has the amazing power to create our own reality by deliberately choosing the thoughts we think. Collectively, we can choose trust and generosity to strengthen the health and well-being of our church.

The Delicate Nature of Abortion

No issue has created such division in our nation as abortion. I can readily understand the various arguments concerning its place in our society.

Here, I will explore some of those concerns and arguments with the hope that we can find some common ground. ~ Rev. Beu
